What is Detox?
Detoxification or “detox” is the process of purging away toxins while managing withdrawal symptoms. Detox typically combines nutrition, hydration and rest with pharmacotherapies that suppress withdrawal symptoms. We know that withdrawal treatment is the first step in recovery but should always be followed up with behavioral-based treatment.
What is withdrawal?
Withdrawal is a cluster of symptoms that occur shortly after abrupt cessation of alcohol, opiates and other drugs for any person physically dependent to alcohol, medications, or recreational drugs. The symptoms of withdrawal vary by the type of chemical substance consumed, dosage, frequency and duration of use, and the individual’s general health. Withdrawal is typically treated with medications, vitamins, minerals and electrolytes.
