Managed Care for Alcohol and Drug Detox
|
Physician oversight is necessary for any person physically dependent to alcohol and drugs.
Alcohol and drug detoxification is a very private matter. Medical oversight is designed specifically to place client safety first.
Your medical doctor is responsible for managing the medical component of your treatment.
The doctor oversees the medical treatment requirements including medicine for each type of detoxification including managing all difficult withdrawal symptoms related to any of the following - alcoholism, benzodiazepine addiction, stimulants addiction and opiate addiction.
Physician’s evaluation includes but is not limited to the following:
|
|
- History of a patient’s drug use and drinking patterns (how much and how long)
- Check for signs of withdrawal symptoms (enlarged pupils, sweating, sneezing, diarrhea, DT’s, hallucinosis, shakes, high blood pressure, tachycardia, etc…)
- Complete review of the body’s eleven main systems
- Medical evaluation for signs of chronic drug and alcohol abuse (confusion, edema, ascites, liver palpation, palmar erythema, acne rosacea, bruising, blackouts, testicular atrophy, gynecomastia, duputryen’s contractures)
- Check for signs of peripheral vascular disease

If a patient is medically cleared to enter detoxification treatment there can be a need for detox medications which can be prescribed to treat a variety of withdrawal symptoms including; diarrhea, hypertension, malnutrition, seizures, tachycardia and DT’s.
Physician follow-up is required to reevaluate their patient’s medical condition and adjust medical treatment throughout the entire detoxification period.
Physician oversight is just one of many components related to treating withdrawal symptoms.
Physician oversight is critical for alcohol and drug detox. It may often mean the difference between a successful and an unsuccessful detox. That is why we use seasoned veterans in all aspects of the recovery process.
